February is National Pet Dental Health Month!
Although we treat every day like “Pet Dental Health Day”, we will be highlighting the importance of oral care all month!
Did you know that bad breath is often a sign of dental disease? Other signs of oral disease include stained teeth, red or inflamed gums, tartar buildup, abnormal drooling or difficulty chewing.
Here are some tips to help your pet maintain good oral health:
1.Brushing your pet’s teeth
2.Feeding a dental care diet and/or dental chews
*Make sure they have the Veterinary Oral Health Council Seal which recognizes products that meet pre-set standards of plaque and calculus retardation in dogs and cats.
3.Use a water additive
4.Veterinary dental cleanings
*Once tartar is formed, a dental cleaning is generally indicated. A thorough dental cleaning requires anesthesia in order to perform dental radiographs and remove tartar from the teeth and below the gum line. Below is a step-by-step video of a Veterinary Pet Dental Cleaning.
